We are so excited to announce our first donation of $20.10 from our shirt sales last month. We are SO thankful of all of your love and support and we couldn't have done it without all of you. We knew our first donation had to be towards No Kill Los Angeles, an amazing no kill shelter that's part of Best Friends Animal Society. Instead of simply donating the funds we raised, we decided to donate 2 huge jars of peanut butter that was on NKLA's Amazon wish list worth $20. We know how much Daisy and Pixie love peanut butta and we wanted to make all the other dogs happy. Today, we want to share with you 5 ways you can help a shelter pet too even if you’re broke.
Money is the most straightforward way to donate to an animal shelter. This is a great way because it’s so quick and it’s a tax break. What we love to do that requires no money from us is purchasing everything on Amazon through Amazon Smile. Amazon Smile is exactly the same thing as good ol’ Amazon except 0.5% of your purchase goes to the charity of your choice. I say spoil yourself and buy those shoes and while you’re at it, add a dog treat in your cart for some good karma. Now you’re a savvy shopper and a good samaritan.
Volunteering is the perfect way to spend some extra time. Most shelters and rescue groups are mostly run by volunteers. Why not hike with an active dog this weekend instead of by yourself. Or get your dose of warm fuzzies by bottle feeding kittens.
Adopting is our favorite way to help a shelter. Not only do you save the animal you’re adopting but you’re making space for another one. Win win!
If you can’t adopt, why not foster. You will be opening up your home so dogs can learn to socialize better and learn what it’s like to live with people. Most rescue groups provide you with everything you need so you won’t need extra money, just a little bit of extra time. This may or may not be just temporary. We vote for the latter.
Talking about adoption as well as signing petitions is the easiest way to save an animal. Next time someone you know mentions buying a puppy, kindly let them know that there are tons of puppies out there that are just as perfect on sites like petfinder.com. Best of all, speaking up is free!
We hope we have provided new ways to help out an animal shelter.
