With 4th of July coming up, it's very important that we keep our dogs safe as well as help those dogs that need us. July represents the deadliest time for shelter animals. Many dogs become terrified of the fireworks and escape from their homes. Unfortunately, many of them end up in high kill shelters with no happy ending. That's why I want to introduce you to some amazing companies that give back to shelters. Why not use your money to a company that goes to an amazing cause.
Dog for Dog sells all natural food and treats and literally does what their company name is - for every dog food they sell, one bag of food gets donated to a dog in need. Such a simple but amazing concept. You already need to buy food or treats for your dog so might as well help another dog in need while you feed your pup. After reading their blog about how normal human peanut butter contains ingredients that aren't the best for dogs, I'm thinking of purchasing their dogsbutter. Pixie LOVES her peanut butter to the point where I actually stopped eating peanut butter on my toast because poor thing just drools until I finish my toast.
WagAware is also an amazing company that donates half of their profits, yup 50% of their profits to a different rescue every couple of weeks. They sell super cute dog charms that you often see Daisy and Pixie wearing in their photos. We know the founder of the company personally and she is very passionate about saving dogs in need as a mother of 3 pups. What I love about the charm is that people often ask what it's for and I get the opportunity to talk about how it helps other dogs in need and encourage others to adopt. People always nod and mention how cool that is. You can totally use the charm and your dog as your wing(wo)man too.
I've mentioned before how fabulous Jessica behind the brand The Tree Kisser is here but have to remind you of her because she's so inspiring. She's also a dog mother and devote vegan that donates 10% of her sales to animals in need. What I love about her is that she donates to an animal rescue that needs her money the most at a certain time. For example, she donated to the the stray cat alliance in the month of June because as many of you know, it's kitten season. She's also giving anyone who either adopts or fosters this month a 50% discount on her merchandise. More details about that can be found on her website. Gosh, she's so cool.
Sheena met Jo, the fabulous bad ass owner of the shop through Daisy's Instagram account. She has 3 rescued chihuahuas and is very passionate about promoting adoption through them. Chihuahua's have the 2nd highest euthanization rate which breaks our hearts. She sells super cute vintage clothing as well as Moe totes - a tote that promotes the adopt don't shop message. Her and her wonderfully compassionate husband donate thousands of dollars every year to local rescues in need and I love looking at her instagram account. My secret favorite is Moe, who has unique flipper feet and has this kind of bad attitude quite often like he's better than everyone. Totally love it!
